By John Miltenberger
“We only became “great” because we were “chosen”, and if we continue in our ways, I have no doubt the baton of God’s anointing will be bestowed on another.”
At the time of the offering of the [evening] sacrifice, Elijah the prophet came near and said, “O LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, today let it be known that You are God in Israel and that I am Your servant and I have done all these things at Your word. “Answer me, O LORD, answer me, that this people may know that You, O LORD, are God, and [that] You have turned their heart back again.”
Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, “The LORD, He is God; the LORD, He is God.” Then Elijah said to them, “Seize the prophets of Baal; do not let one of them escape.” So they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there. [1 Kings 18:36-40 NASB]
“It is he who will go [as a forerunner] before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to the children, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” [Luke 1:17 NASB]
As I prayed this morning, I began to compare the events of September 11th, 2001 with the Kung Flu, as I call it, that is currently afflicting this nation, and the world. Many have recently noted that the virus is a judgment intended to turn us back to God, at least in this country, considering our Christian origins. The prayer then took a turn, and began to have an intensity I had not foreseen. By the time I was finished, I was desperately crying out to God, and I’m glad there were no witnesses! It got urgent, and it got loud, but sometimes prayer does that.
We all want this pandemic to end, and we want to get back to what we once took for granted – normal life in America. But I no longer want that at all. Let me explain.
After 9/11 our churches were full for about two weeks. People were scared into a brief repentance, but in a few days everything went back to normal in America, except for those engaged in a new war. But that “war” has now gone on for twenty years, with no genuine end in sight, and meanwhile, America went on defiling our land – the land that is only “ours” because God gave it to us.
And now the Kung Flu is ravaging our nation, and once again, most of our response has been to declare another war, and mobilizing ourselves to fight it with weapons of drugs and vaccines. It doesn’t take a great brain to predict that the next event, be it war with people, war with viruses, or both, to know the next big event will be bigger and even less fixable than the mess we are in today. While it may at first seem an over-simplification, I believe we need to prioritize our declarations of war to put first the one that matters the most: we need to declare war on our sins.
9/11 and the Kung Flu are obviously warning shots across our nation’s bow. We should pay attention, or if not, we will pay a very heavy price. The choice is still ours, I hope. And if we for a moment assume we still have a choice, let’s make the most of it and choose wisely to fight the sin that has, and is, destroying our land and our way of life.
Someone once asked the question, “What would the world be without America?” I’ll tell you the answer: since God ALWAYS leaves Himself a witness on the earth He created, and I mean ALWAYS, He would choose some other nation to perform His will on the earth, as He once chose America. We only became “great” because we were “chosen”, and if we continue in our ways, I have no doubt the baton of God’s anointing will be bestowed on another. God is not limited in what He can do, and we have severely defiled our land with our sins. Our abortions alone would eventually be enough of a sin burden to bring about our destruction.
My prayer today got intense because I began once again to inquire of the Lord, “Where is the spirit of Elijah?!” And I got louder as I begged Him to bring out His sequestered men and women who will once again shake the world as they shout with true divine authority, “Thus says the Lord..” Where are they? We’ve never needed them more urgently!
Today, I will proclaim this in the Name of the Lord: WE ARE SICKER FROM OUR SINS THAN THE VIRUS COULD EVER MAKE US, AND THEY WILL, AND ARE, KILLING US WITH 100% EFFICIENCY AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO IF WE DON’T REPENT. Only after that repentance, will I want to see the new “normal” in America.
We have been warned twice already. If we fail to heed the message and the urgency of the message now, the next shot may not be a warning.
