What Finger News

By J.D. Heyes

It’s almost comical hearing Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) criticize POTUS Donald Trump as lacking in “leadership” qualities, which she’s done since his spectacular State of the Union Address.

The president has only managed to revive the U.S. economy, persuade NATO countries to spend more on their militaries and invest more in Europe’s defense, keep Russia in check, get China to the trade negotiating table, renegotiate NAFTA, and temper North Korea.

Not bad for a former reality TV host and billionaire real estate developer with just over two years’ worth of experience as the leader of the free world. And let’s not forget that POTUS Trump managed to pull off his accomplishments with 92 percent negative coverage from the mainstream media (MSM), no Democratic support, Robert Mueller on his tail, and the entire Deep State and Washington political establishment at his throat.

But here’s Omar, who’s been in Congress about 10 minutes, lecturing us about how the president is no leader because he ‘just doesn’t get’ what is truly ‘popular’ among the American people: Socialism.

In an interview with the left-wing news program “Democracy Now!” Omar said the president is clearly divorced from reality on “popular” issues of like “Medicare-for-all,” and as such he “lacks leadership.”

She said because that supposed lack of ‘getting it,’ it underscored the importance for Democrats ahead of 2020 to find a presidential contender “who can lead our nation into prosperity and who’s not going to be a liar-in-chief in the White House.”

“What we advocate for – what Bernie, myself, you know, Alexandria, Rashida, what we advocate for is an America that is prosperous, an America that makes sure that everybody has access to jobs, everybody has access to housing, everybody has access to healthcare,” Omar told interviewer host Amy Goodman, who, of course, didn’t challenge the freshman Democrat on anything.

Continuing, the ‘congressional socialism caucus’ was advocating for a country where people are not dying because they can’t afford insulin or because “they don’t have a home and they’re freezing outside.”

“I don’t know if he knows how popular Medicare-for-all is. I don’t know if he understands how popular freeing students from the shackles of debt is. I don’t know if he knows how popular it is for us to critically address climate, and climate change,” she added. “So clearly, clearly he lacks leadership, and it’s going to be really important for the next year for us to find someone who can lead our nation into prosperity, and who’s not going to be a liar-in-chief in the White House.”

First things first: Surely Omar realizes that, contrary to her claims that the president is unaware of what Americans really want, Trump did manage to get himself elected — though all the Vegas money was on Hillary.

As to the programs she claims are so popular, there’s no question that they are among a certain sector of the American public. In fact, I’d even go out on a limb a bit and say that a growing number of Americans find free this and free that very appealing.

But since when should public policies be decided by what is and isn’t “popular?” Policies should be judged on their merits or lack thereof; they should be assessed based on means-testing, historical precedence, and whether they have a basis in reality (Medicare-for-all, for example — at $32 trillion over the first decade, at least— is simply unaffordable, and that’s before we get into other socialism caucus policies like guaranteed government jobs, basic incomes, and paying off a trillion dollars’ worth of school debt that Democratic ‘college for all’ policies created).

So who’s the ‘liar-in-chief’ here — the president or the socialism caucus, none of whose members have been honest with the American people about how their policies would truly work in practice (insert Venezuelan example here)?

Omar talks about how the socialism caucus ‘advocates’ for a “prosperous” America, and yet America is already prosperous — the No. 1 economy in the world and growing larger under POTUS Trump’s leadership. Wages are rising, wealth is being created, companies are growing, industries are hiring, and our economy is skyrocketing. If all of this combined isn’t the textbook definition of ‘prosperous,’ then what is?

Is there poverty in America? Of course; there’s always been poverty in America, even after Democrat President Lyndon B. Johnson’s “war on poverty” begun in the 1960s was supposed to eradicate it the same way Obamacare was supposed to eradicate expensive healthcare, insurance premiums, and co-pays. Are some things unfair? Yes; but there is much more opportunity in America than virtually anywhere else on the planet.

The president’s record of accomplishment thus far has been exemplary, alluding to his leadership. There is no epidemic of Americans dying in the street because they can’t get insulin. Climate change in the sense that the Democrats define it is a hoax. And there are two concepts Omar is pushing that have never, ever been associated together and will never be associated together: Socialism and prosperity.

Can Omar and her congressional socialism caucus be honest about that?
