Trump’s Latest Campaign Promise to be Fulfilled: Keystone Pipeline Approved

Another day, another campaign promise fulfilled by the Trump administration.

For all of the weeping and gnashing of teeth going on in the media and on the left these days about President Trump, he sure has accomplished many of the things he promised he would back when he was on the campaign trail. The latest promise fulfilled was the President’s approval Friday morning of the final stages of the Keystone Pipeline.

General Michael Flynn defense fund Fellow patriots, please listen to this short, inspiring message from General Flynn. General Michael Flynn exemplifies patriotism, courage, and love of God and country - despite some of his own countrymen relentlessly attacking him. Donations for his defense are greatly appreciated. If you can only give $5.00, please do so - every little bit helps. Thank you so much, and God bless. Letter from General Flynn.

The Trump administration approved the final stages of the Keystone XL oil pipeline Friday.

The approval comes 16 months after the Obama administration rejected the project over concerns it would tarnish the U.S.’s reputation as a leader in the fight against global warming.

TransCanada submitted an application to build Keystone XL in September 2008, and the Obama administration rejected the pipeline in late 2015. The company sued the administration for $15 billion under the North American Free Trade Agreement, but that suit will be moot.

“We greatly appreciate President Trump’s administration for reviewing and approving this important initiative and we look forward to working with them as we continue to invest in and strengthen North America’s energy infrastructure,” Russ Girling, CEO of TransCanada, said in a statement.

The final approval was welcome news for our neighbors to the North who approved the project long ago, and have consistently argued that the Keystone project would NOT harm the environment.

While the project has received all the approvals it needs in Canada, very little of the construction has been completed there due to U.S. delays, so it’s likely to require many kilometres worth of new pipeline material and many new jobs in Canada, too.

Canada’s Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr also welcomed the news on behalf of Canada’s federal government. “Our government has always been supportive of the Keystone XL pipeline and we are pleased with the U.S. decision,” Carr said.

“Keystone XL will create thousands of good, middle-class jobs for Canadians during construction.”

Here’s what the President had to say at the ceremony for his final approval this morning:

Thank you very much for being here this morning.  Today, I’m pleased to announce the official approval of the presidential permit for the Keystone XL Pipeline.  TransCanada will finally be allowed to complete this long overdue project with efficiency and with speed.  We’re working out the final details as we speak.  It’s going to be an incredible pipeline, greatest technology known to man or woman.  And frankly, we’re very proud of it.

Russ Girling, President of TransCanada, is right behind me, and I’m going to have him say a few words.  I know, Russ, you’ve been waiting for a long, long time.  And I hope you don’t pay your consultants anything because they had nothing to do with the approval.  (Laughter.)  You should ask for the hundreds of millions of dollars back that you paid them because they didn’t do a damn thing except get a no vote, right?

It’s a great day for American jobs and a historic moment for North American and energy independence.  This announcement is part of a new era of American energy policy that will lower costs for American families — and very significantly — reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and create thousands of jobs right here in America.

And I also would like to add I think it’s a lot safer to have pipelines than to use other forms of transportation for your product.

When completed, the Keystone XL pipeline will span 900 miles — wow — and have the capacity to deliver more than 800,000 barrels of oil per day to the Gulf Coast refineries.  That’s some big pipeline.

The fact is that this $8 billion investment in American energy was delayed for so long — it demonstrates how our government has too often failed its citizens and companies over the past long period of time.  Today, we begin to make things right and to do things right.  Today we take one more step in putting the jobs, wages, and economic security of American citizens first.  Put America first.

As the Keystone XL pipeline now moves forward, this is just the first of many energy and infrastructure projects that my administration will approve — and we’ve already approved a couple of other big ones, very, very big ones, which we’ll be announcing soon — in order to help put Americans back to work, grow our economy, and rebuild our nation.

Though this was a major hurdle and the company building the pipeline, TransCanada is happy to finally have approval, that doesn’t mean this is a done deal. The project still faces many hurdles that could derail the project and environmental activists promise to continue being a thorn in the flesh of the Keystone project. However, finally getting presidential approval means that TransCanada can begin the necessary preparations to finally get this important pipeline built.
