Do You Trust God Completely?

God wants our trust. His desire for us is to trust Him completely, not partially. It is all or nothing with God. A lukewarm faith and lukewarm trust are of little value.

General Michael Flynn defense fund Fellow patriots, please listen to this short, inspiring message from General Flynn. General Michael Flynn exemplifies patriotism, courage, and love of God and country - despite some of his own countrymen relentlessly attacking him. Donations for his defense are greatly appreciated. If you can only give $5.00, please do so - every little bit helps. Thank you so much, and God bless. Letter from General Flynn.

So, because you are lukewarm–neither hot nor cold–I am about to spit you out of My mouth.Revelation 3:16 (NIV)

Every worry, seemingly impossible circumstance, and burning desire is in His control. Unfortunately, fear and doubt creep in when we do not understand the adversity and questionable circumstances we face. Faith tells us an all-powerful Creator loves us. Trust is relational. It means we put our confidence in God.

“It is a blessed fear which drives us to trust. Unregenerate fear drives from God, gracious fear drives to Him. If I fear man I have only to trust God, and I have the best antidote. To trust when there is no cause for fear is but the name of faith, but to be reliant upon God when occasions for alarm are abundant and pressing is the conquering faith of God’s elect. Though the verse is in the form of a resolve, it became a fact in David’s life; let us make it so in ours. Whether the fear arises from without or within, from past, present or future, from temporals or spirituals, from men or devils, let us maintain faith, and we shall soon recover courage.” –Charles H. Spurgeon

So, is God trustworthy? How can we confidently believe that God is reliable and committed to our care? Can we depend on His strength, integrity, and ability? When we size up a person, we look at their character and past performance. We can do the same thing with God.

The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him.” Psalm 28:7 (NKJV)

David wrote of why he trusted God in several of his Psalms. In Psalm 31:7, he recalls the faithfulness of God during past circumstances. He acknowledges that God is aware of his adversities and that He lovingly considers how best to help. David trusted that the mercy the heavenly Father provided in the past would also follow him into the future.

Blessed be the Lord, for He has shown me His marvelous kindness in a strong city!Psalm 31:21 (NKJV)

I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy, for You have considered my trouble;

You have known my soul in adversities, and have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a wide place.” Psalm 31:7-8 (NKJV)

“I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.” Psalm 40:1-2

David comments on the goodness of God. Reflecting back to past experiences, he notes that God has prepared a place of safety for those who trust Him. A place tucked away from the evil plots of man, and from deceitful wagging tongues.

“Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have prepared for those who trust in You in the presence of the sons of men! You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.” Psalm 31:19-20 (NKJV)

David meditated on the character of God, which enabled him to trust the Father during the most difficult of times. He recalls His goodness, faithfulness to protect and rescue, ability to strengthen, devotion to listen to our petitions, desire to love, and provide. Additionally, David understood God wanted a relationship with His children, and that His thoughts toward us are more than we can number.

“Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works which You have done; And Your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to You in order; If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.” Psalm 40:5 (NKJV)

The Psalmist understood his life was in God’s hands. He knew who held the strings and he acknowledged God’s right to rule his heart. It takes faith to trust an unseen God, but if we meditate on God’s character and His faithfulness from past experiences, trust will grow.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 (NIV)

“But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in Your hand; Deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me.” Psalm 31:14-15 (NKJV)

“In You, O Lord, I put my trust; Let me never be ashamed; Deliver me in Your righteousness.” Psalm 30:1 (NKJV)

Trust in the Lord forever, for in YAH, the Lord, is everlasting strengthIsaiah 26:4 (NKJV)
