Since long titles wreak havoc with publishers I abandoned my first choice for this piece. See if you like it – sing along with me!
Five negative articles, four calling birds, three French hens, too many candidates – and a Donald in a pear tree

Recently a blogger asked me why I wrote five fairly negative articles about Donald Trump. I corrected him by saying I wrote five articles, but one was positive and one simply included Trump, but he was not the subject of the piece.
I rather like the Donald, but I have serious doubts about his ability to be president. He could win, but will America win?
I loved the story about how he let a family use his private jet to transport a very sick child to the hospital even while none of the major airlines was willing to help.
Today I heard him describe what he would do for veterans. I heard about his faith and his connection to the Presbyterian Church.
He said the evangelicals love him, but that’s the same 60 million who stayed home or voted for Barack in 2012. It is the same group that is sliding into wholesale apostasy faster than the speed of betrayal. Main line historic denominations are practically unrecognizable and have slid off their foundations under the influence of liberalism for an entire generation. Not much to brag about here.
What’s not to like you say?
Let me answer that in another way.
If Trump wins the nomination I will support him with everything I have, first, because he is not Barack Obama, second because he is not a flaming liberal, and last, because he is not a democrat.
Beyond these reasons I must say; the Donald has not yet earned my trust.
I’m not the impressed by his wealth or business acumen, first because America is much more than a business or enterprise to be manipulated by some new guy in town. Secondly, the greatest man I have ever known never bought or sold anything and never had a dollar to his name. I am speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ, if you did not already know that.
Trump’s stand against abortion is weak and he simply has no plan to deal with perverted marriage. I will continue to sound the cry against any candidate who does not seriously address these issues.
We falsely believe that social trends make something go away once it becomes acceptable to a majority. In God’s economy when his best guidance is rejected it is the majority that goes away and that, rather unceremoniously – it is called judgment.
While we are looking for a tight border, more jobs and a growing economy, God is waiting for us to wise up about what is really bringing this country down, not to mention that we are looking more like a bunch of naked clowns to the rest of the world.
When the leader of a small African country (Kenya) tells Barack Obama he will not allow the homosexual agenda to take root in his country – what does that say about the “mighty America?”
The noise, the name calling, the wild ideas (getting Mexico to pay for the wall!!!) are all beyond the pale.
And yes, I am still waiting for him to apologize to Megyn Kelly – it would show character and prove that even though he is overly vociferous and outspoken he is a gentleman.
I am unashamed to declare that at this moment I would prefer seeing Sen Ted Cruz become our next president. But, if he does not, I will be behind any conservative that is seated in the Oval Office.
Let’s not delude ourselves; Trump can become the Ross Perot of 2016. If he does run as a third party candidate he will undoubtedly strengthen the democratic ticket. This is a forgone.
May God guide us and may we listen better than we did in 08 and 12!
Remember that to wise up – sometimes we have to hush up.
Candidates and campaigns are by nature loud and noisy, but we must seek God in the quietness of prayer and ask him who would be best for our next president. Like much of the best guidance in our lives the answer will come in the “still small voice.”
“And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice” (1Kings 19: 11-12)
