Fellow patriots, please listen to this short, inspiring message from General Flynn. General Michael Flynn exemplifies patriotism, courage, and love of God and country - despite some of his own countrymen relentlessly attacking him. Donations for his defense are greatly appreciated. If you can only give $5.00, please do so - every little bit helps. Thank you so much, and God bless. Letter from General Flynn.
Michigan School Threatens To Punish Students For Parents’ Response To Common Core
This is just the latest controversy to arise in connection with the unpopular federal program.
According to a recent WDIV report, one Detroit elementary school is facing serious criticism for its response to parents who missed a recent Common Core meeting. Though the federal curriculum program has elicited backlash of its own for content issues, Coleman A. Young Elementary School administrators added a new wrinkle to the controversy by threatening to suspend students based on the actions of their parents.
Reports indicate students were given a letter to take home following a recent parent-teacher meeting scheduled to discuss the tests mandated under Common Core. Those parents who did not attend – and who fail to make it to school for a forthcoming makeup date – were informed that their kids could face punishment as a result.
“I was like, ‘Wow, is this a joke?’” said upset parent Derrick Smoak. “I really couldn’t believe what I was reading.”
He went on to affirm that he would prefer the school give working parents some latitude in scheduling a meeting with their children’s educators.
“Let’s find a date when I can actually work for the parents for the both of them,” he said, “so they can both be there.”
Latrica Smoak agreed, noting that many jobs won’t allow employees “to take off an hour or two and go up to the school just for a parent meeting.”
She added that the tone of the letter she received from the school added further offense.
“I don’t like being threatened in no letter,” she said, “especially when it comes to my child’s education.”
As for Detroit Public Schools, the district responded to WDIV with a statement declaring the threat of suspension was not made “out of ill intent, but rather to express the level of importance” of the test and students’ preparation for it.
