Psalm 22 contain some of the most poignant prophetic scriptures that speak about the crucifixion. And yet when this Psalm was written crucifixion was not yet known as a tortuous death that became common for the Romans to use. The following are scriptures from Psalm 22 and their fulfillment.

Old Testament Phrase : Psalm 22   and the  New Testament Fulfillment

Vs. 1-2– My God! My God! Why have you abandoned me? Why so far from helping me, so far from my anguished cries?   Matthew 27:46– At about three Yeshua uttered a loud cry  “Eli! Eli! L’mah sh’vaktani? ( My God! My God! Why have you deserted me?”

Vs. 7-9 All who see me jeer at me; they sneer and shake their heads: He committed himself to ADONAI, so let him rescue him!   Mat 27: 39-44 People passing by hurled insults at him,  shaking their heads and saying “So you can destroy the Temple, can you, and rebuild it in 3 days? Save yourself, if you are the                                                                                                                                                                 son of God, and come down from the stake! Likewise the head Cohanim jeered at him, along with the Torah teachers and elders. He saved others but he can’t save himself! So he’sking of Isra’el, is he? Let him come down now from the stake! Then we’ll believe him! He trusted God? So, let him rescue him if he wants him! After all he did say, “I’m the Son of God! Even the robbers nailed up with him insulted him in the same way .Vs. 16 Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet.  John 19:18, 20:25– There they nailed him to the stake along with two others, on on either side, with Yeshua in the middle. When the other talmidim told him, “We have seen the LORD,” he replied , ” Unless I see the nail marks in his hands, put my finger into the place where the nails were and put my hand into his side, I refuse to believe it.”Vs. 19 They divide my garments among themselves; for my clothing they throw dice.   Mat 27:35 After they had nailed him to the stake, they divided his clothes among them by throwing dice.

It always amazes me how accurately the Old Testament scriptures are revealed in the New Covenant scriptures. How can they be so accurate? There is only one reason that makes sense, and that is because God Himself had written hundreds of Prophecies just like these. If only people would read and study there bibles, keep an open ear, an open eye and most importantly an open heart they just may come to the conclusion that not only is God real, but that Yeshua is the living Son of God, the lamb that was slain to take away the sins of the world, our redeemer, our LORD and our key to salvation. Praise the Lamb! Praise the Lamb who is worthy to be praised!

  1. Thank You, Rabbi Eric for giving us these prophetic scriptures showing us how Messiah was revealed in the Old Covenant long before He became flesh. I have a little reproduction of a painting of Mary holding baby Yeshua in her right arm and in her left arm is a tiny precious lamb. This is all powerful stuff! God Bless You, my brother in Yeshua!

    • Mrs. CJB, your devotion to the Jewish people leaves me in awe. I wish all Gentiles would feel the same love towards the Jews and all things Jewish, as the church has taken much of their liturgy and traditions straight from the Jews of the Old Testament. The Old Testament is full of prophetic statements about Yeshua. The entire bible was written for Him and we need to express this to both Jew and Gentile every chance we get. God bless you and may He show you much favor.
