A Devotion by Cheryl Zelenka http://facingtrials.com
“Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:18-19 (NKJV)
“Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:12-14 (NKJV)
New beginnings are often full of joy, fear, confusion or hope. They are the first step down an unknown path. Some will welcome a fresh start while others will hang their head in regret, not wanting to leave their past behind.
However, we are in a constant state of transformation. Our God is continually molding us into that perfect vessel intended for His service and glory. This metamorphosis takes an entire lifetime. As clay must yield to the Potter’s hand, so must we yield our wills to God.
When we agree to shed our old self for a new skin, God provides a fresh start and even more opportunities to bring our impurities to the surface. Refinement and purification may cause scars but they are beautiful in the sight of God. Our reward for agreeing to this often painful process? A greater likeness and identity with our Lord, Christ Jesus.
If you have plans that are not aligned to God’s ambition, there will come a time when He asks you to release them in exchange for His. This is when obedience must overrule your fleshly passions. Although God created us with emotions, they are not to rule over us.
If the Father calls us into action, we ought to answer in submission and love, respecting His power and authority. Never will it be easy to lay our old self down, it takes discipline and faith to willingly take up the cross we’ve been appointed. So an absolute trust in God’s love for you is essential. It will enable you to release even your deepest desires, plans, and attachments. It will be a sacrifice of praise.
Will tears of sorrow fall, maybe? Will God make a record of them? For certain! Each one of our tears is recorded on a heavenly scroll. Releasing our plans and submitting to the will of God is a pet test of our heavenly Father. He wants our recurrent obedience. In fact, obedience will always require fine-tuning and additional polishing.
“You number my wanderings; put my tears into Your bottle; are they not in Your book?” “Psalm 56:6 (NKJV)
“ Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.“ 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Revelations 21:4 (NKJV)
